Northbridge House

The clients wanted to build a residence on a steep location falling twenty meters to the water with a very challenging access. The challenge was to get cars further down to where the house would be sited and to ensure they could turn and drive out. A driveway in the shape of a drum provides room for cars to turn arriving at a grand entry door defined with an elegant two-story entry porch. Each of the four different levels of the house has maximum convenient access and is an expression of the architectural form of the building. All bedrooms on the first floor have northerly aspects and face the water view. The result is a house which is grand but not intimidating and a substantial residence on a very difficult site.
